What are the risk factors for carotid and vertebral artery dissection?
Metadata[+] Show full item record
Carotid and vertebral artery dissections (CVADs) usually occur spontaneously in young, otherwise healthy adults. They are associated with trivial trauma, including chiropractic manipulation and recent infection. Asymptomatic systemic connective tissue abnormalities may be present in more than 50% of affected patients, although the clinical implications are unclear. (SOR C, based on low-quality case-control and case series studies.)
