The diagnostic criteria for diabetes mellitus (DM) include (1) two separate fasting plasma glucose (FPG) values >126 mg/dL, (2) two separate 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) glucose values greater-than or equal to 200 mg/dL, or (3) a random glucose greater-than or equal to 200 mg/dL. The use of hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) for the diagnosis of DM is not recommended at this time. (SOR C, based on expert opinion.)
