Are there any proven methods to prevent recurrent infections in chronic indwelling catheters?

A number of strategies have been used to prevent catheter-associated infections. Of these, avoiding unnecessary catheterization and removing the catheter as soon as possible are most effective. Appropriate catheter management can also reduce the risk of infection. (SOR C, based on consensus guideline.)
