Abstract: Pelvic and back pain are experienced by many women during pregnancy. This pain generally increases as gestational age advances, and it interferes with daily activities, leads to time off work, and sometimes disturbs sleep. Acupuncture in combination with usual allopathic prenatal care appears to be more effective for pain relief than usual care alone. However, studies generally have not included sham acupuncture in control groups.
