Does empathy matter in treating the common cold?

When patients perceive their clinician as highly empathetic (scoring 50/50 on the Mercer Consultation and Relational Empathy [CARE] measure) they have a cold that is less severe and almost a day shorter than cold sufferers who rate their physicians as being less empathetic.
