Development of Targeted siRNA Therapeutics for Triple Negative Breast Cancer and Liver Fibrosis
(University of Missouri -- Kansas City, 2018)The objective of this dissertation is to develop various systems to deliver small interfering RNA (siRNA) for the treatment of triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) and liver fibrosis. siRNAs targeting vascular endothelial ... -
Evaluation of the Anti-Fibrotic Activity of PCBP2 siRNA in Primary Hepatic Stellate Cells and Discovery of Anti-PD-L1 Peptide and Nanobody for Immunotherapy
(University of Missouri -- Kansas City, 2018)There are two major research objectives in this dissertation. Our laboratory recently discovered a small interfering RNA (siRNA) that silences the poly (rC) binding protein 2 (PCBP2) gene. It is hypothesized that silencing ... -
Establishing Metronidazole as a Novel Biomarker of CYP2A6 Activity
(University of Missouri -- Kansas City, 2018)CYP2A6 is a polymorphically expressed enzyme with variation associated with smoking behavior, cessation success, lung cancer risk, and differential drug exposure to numerous medications including anti-infectious and ... -
Metabolomics and chemical library screening for antibacterial drug discovery
(2020)There are twenty standard amino acids which are proteinogenic and can exist in two stereoisomeric forms, D- and L-enantiomers, except for glycine, which is achiral. The D-amino acids are not incorporated in proteins; ... -
Second Generation Photoactivated Insulins
(2020)The photoactivated depot (PAD) is a minimally invasive approach developed for a continuously variable light stimulated release of insulin. In this approach, a protein depot that can last for days is injected under the skin. ... -
Development of Nanomedicine to Simultaneously Target Pancreatic Cancer Cells and Stroma
(2020)Dense desmoplastic stroma is a fundamental characteristic of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and comprises up to 80% of the tumor mass, which acts as a barrier that impedes the delivery of antitumor drugs into the ... -
Topical Clear Aqueous Nanomicellar Formulations for Age-Related Macular Degeneration
(2020)Disorders affecting the posterior segment of eyes represent a significant burden to healthcare and patients’ wellbeing. Among the back of the eye disorders, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the major ailments ... -
Synthesis, Characterization and In-vivo Testing of Photoactivatable Insulin Depots for Continuously Variable and Minimally Invasive Insulin Delivery
(University of Missouri -- Kansas City, 2019)Proteins are macromolecules involved in a diverse array of functions. Mutations or abnormal levels of proteins are indicated in several diseases. Despite showing early promise, the translation of protein therapeutics ... -
