Kaylene Can't Drive: stories is a collection of short fiction about the lives of women, especially women in their twenties, many of whom live in New York City. Running through the stories are recurring themes. In several stories there's a parent in prison. In others the primary character's a teacher. In others there's a heterosexual relationship at the center, usually failing. The visual arts play a role in many of the pieces in the collection, and at the beginning of the collection there's an introduction that weaves a personal narrative with a critical consideration of the use of ekphrasis in prose.eng
