Exploring the impact of agricultural biotechnology on green investment and economic growth : a comparative study under the RCEP framework
(University of Missouri, College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, 2023) Hu, Hengyi; Masron, Tajul Ariffin
These days, countries are increasingly recognising the need for economic growth and green investment in response to significant environmental degradation. This aspect requires recent studies and policymakers' attention. This paper examines the effects of agricultural biotechnology on green investment and economic growth in China, specifically within the framework of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The study collected secondary data on China from 2003 to 2022 from the World Development Indicators (WDI). The study examines the relationship between agricultural biotechnology, green investment, and economic growth using an autoregressive distributed lag model (ARDL). It then conducts empirical analysis and verification to support its findings. The findings suggest a strong correlation between agricultural biotechnology, green investment, and economic growth in China. The study assists policymakers in formulating policies that promote green investment and economic growth by utilizing efficient agricultural biotechnology.

(University of Missouri, College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, 2023) Siregar, M. Akbar; Tambunan, Saribulan; Lubis, Adelina; Pratama, Ikbar
Crude palm oil (CPO) production has been a pivotal factor in the economic growth of CPO production companies, influenced by various determinants and necessitating further research. This study investigates the impact of labour wage rate, workers’ education, production land, interest rate, and inflation rate on CPO production and prices in Indonesia. Utilizing secondary data from STATISTA and World Development Indicators (WDI) covering the period from 1994 to 2023, the study employs the dynamic autoregressive distributed lag (DARDL) approach to analyse the relationships among these variables. The findings indicate that labour wage rate, workers’ education, production land, interest rate, and inflation rate are positively correlated with CPO production and prices in Indonesia. The study offers policy recommendations, suggesting that regulators should focus on increasing labour wages, improving workers' education, and expanding production land to enhance CPO production and prices.

The competitive advantages of Salacca zalacca var. amboinensis and their determinants
(University of Missouri, College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, 2023) Tamba, I Made
The strengthening of trade liberalization provides new opportunities and new challenges that farmers and governments must face in the supply chain of Indonesia agricultural commodities in international markets. Salacca zalacca var. amboinensis is one of the five types of fruit designated as the superior fruit of Bali region, which is positioned to be a source of regional and national economic leverage. Market liberalization could lead to significant losses if farmers are unable to make a profit during the main harvest season and their products lack competitiveness. In order to respond to these conditions, this research was conducted with the aim of analyzing (1) the level of innovation in Salacca zalacca var. amboinensis farming and (2) the competitive advantage of Salacca zalacca var. amboinensis and the factors that influence it. The research was conducted in centers of Salacca zalacca var. amboinensis production in the Province of Bali, with a total of 139 respondents among Salacca zalacca var. amboinensis farmers. This study employs a policy analysis matrix (PAM) approach with private cost ratio (PCR) indicators is used to analyze the competitive advantage of Salacca zalacca var. amboinensis. The results showed that, cumulatively, the innovation level of Salacca zalacca var. amboinensis was in the low category. Salacca zalacca var. amboinensis has a competitive advantage in all strata of land area and also in all harvest seasons, so it has a great opportunity to be used as the superior export fruit and classic economic crops that remain competitive for the Bali region. To summarize, the competitive edge of Salacca zalacca var. amboinensis relies on the level of innovation in cultivating, post-harvesting, and marketing Salacca zalacca var. amboinensis.
