Item Impact factors in open access : the value, frustrations, and new paths forward(2023) Friedman, Steve C.The age-old metric associated with traditional print academic journals— the journal impact factor (JIF)—has carried over into some electronic open access journals (OA). JIF receives a fair share of criticism (e.g., easy to manipulate, relied on too much for academic promotions), but while some OA journals continue to embrace the system to validate their relevance, others are embracing new metrics, such as alternative journal impact factors (A-JIFs). This essay examines the suitability, validation, and problems with journal impact factors and alternative measures of impact and considers whether traditional metrics can continue to be a useful measure of impact. The piece concludes with the suggestion that qualitative and quantitative measures will need to be employed and perfected to ensure impact factor methods can achieve better validation. Academic librarians will need to be especially aware of all these methods as they advise their tenure-track faculty on the preferred publishing methods and metrics available to them.Item Attitudes of Missouri leaders on energy parks environment and land use(1976) Leuthold, David A.; Cranor, John D.; Nagle, Steve M.This is a report on attitudes toward various programs related to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Nearly every home is equipped with at least one appliance while many homes have five, ten or even fifteen or more separate units. While the term "appliance" includes a multitude of products of various sizes and uses, this study will consider only eight larger appliances: Refrigerators Ranges Freezers Dishwashers Clothes Washers Water Heaters Clothes Dryers Room Air Conditioners The manufacture of these larger appliances has been historically concentrated in the northeastern portion of the United States. Although manufacturing plants have recently been established in the Midwest, South, and Far West, only a limited number are located in Missouri. The purpose of this report is ( a) to examine the important locational factors for the manufacture of larger home appliances and (b) to determine the advantages offered by Missouri to appliance manufacturers.Item My story : William John Krause, II(William John Krause II, 2019) Krause, William J., II, 1942-"The following are my answers to a series of 52 questions prompted by StoryWorth, Inc.
