The inauguration of John Carrier Weaver, fourteenth president, University of Missouri, April 18, 1967
(University of Missouri., 1967) University of Missouri System. Office of the President.
John Carrier Weaver was born in Evanston, Illinois, in 1915. Most of his academic career has been centered on his native Midwest, where the philosophy of higher education he exemplifies has seen its greatest developĀ ment. His concepts reflect his varied associations with six midwestern campuses: at the University of Wisconsin, where he received undergraduate and graduate degrees in geography; at the University of Minnesota, where he served on the geography faculty; at Kansas State UniĀ versity, where he was Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; at the University of Nebraska, where he was Dean of the Graduate College and university research administrator; at The University of Iowa, where he was Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate College; and at The Ohio State University, where he was Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculties. Dr. Weaver assumed the office of President of the University of Missouri on September 1, 1966. He is the fourteenth man in the 127-year history of the University to hold that title.
