The status of artists in Kansas City : February 2008 draft report
(KCResearch, 2008-02) Frisch, Michael; Bohrer, Darren
The Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City and The Charlotte Street Foundation commissioned a new study as part of the KC Artist LINC program to examine the demographic and household conditions of artists i Kansas City in order to better understand the relative state of artists' living and working conditions in the metropolitan area. Using data from the 1990 and 2000 US Census and other sources, the study confirms that Kansas City has become a mid-continent center for artists, where artists have the opportunity to raise families, buy houses and participate as fully-invested members of the community to a degree that they may not be be able to elsewhere.

Why Geography Matters: How geography and path dependency have aided in the black and white divide in Kansas City, MO
(Interdisciplinary Doctoral Student Council at the University of Missouri- Kansas City, 2007) Cornell, Megan
Questions of space were very important in shaping Kansas City. Over time, space has aided in the geographic and hence social isolation of many people. This paper will look at the causes of segregation in the US and Kansas City, and subsequently how geography has helped segregation become the norm in many cities, including Kansas City, concluding with a look at path dependent processes in a modern day framework and what policies should be enacted to move forward.
