Abstract

"To begin an exercise routine, older adults must think in terms of what they 'can do' and what they 'should do'. (Refer to Exercise and Older Adults, Home Economics Guide 6731). Everyone, especially older adults, must make a conscious effort to move every joint of the body in its normal range at least once every day. For example, the shoulder joint is constructed to allow the arms to be raised straight up over the head. Days may go by without raising the arms to their full height lessening the ability to complete a full reach. The current normal range of joint movements and flexibility is that which can be done without strain or pain."--First paragraph.
