Abstract

"Some say the family is breaking up. A rising divorce rate has doubled since 1962. Statistics indicate there are over 10 million in the world of the formerly married, and that there is one divorce for every two marriages. These data certainly do suggest a need for a closer look at today's family. Instead of focusing on families breaking up look at the growing group of single parents as a significant family form which represents not a breakdown but rather a re-arrangement of relationships. Rather than looking at broken homes one might better concentrate on the home that has emerged - the home of the formerly married single parent."--First paragraph.
