Abstract

"Health care workers who handle hazardous drugs may come in contact with these agents in the workplace. This type of exposure can cause both acute and chronic health effects such as skin rashes, adverse reproductive outcomes, and possibly leukemia and other cancers. Use of proper protective equipment can mitigate the potential risks associated with occupational exposure to hazardous drugs. No formalized system to provide staff guidance on proper procedure to handle hazardous medications was in place in the University of Missouri Health Care (UMHC) system prior to this project."--Background information.
