Abstract

"AntipsychoticLong-Antipsychotic Long-Acting Injections (LAIs) have become a popular treatment option in patients with schizophrenia who struggle with medication compliance. Allow for deep intramuscular administration of medication every four weeks vs. taking daily oral tablets. Valuable treatment for ensuring compliance and preventing hospital readmission. These medications are also expensive and inpatient facilities receive less reimbursement from insurance companies for product administration. Results in substantial expenses for both patients and UMHS. In response, drug manufacturers offer product replacement programs for inpatient facilities initiating antipsychotic LAIs."--Background.
