Abstract
"Urinary tract infections are the most common type of healthcare-associated infection, accounting for more than 30 percent of infections reported by acute care hospitals. Virtually all healthcare-associated UTIs are caused by instrumentation of the urinary tract. Catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) has been associated with increased morbidity, mortality, hospital cost, and length of stay(CDC, 2009). Oncology Inpatient unit is the home unit for our Hematology/Oncology patient population as well as our Urology patients. With these combined high risk patient populations for urinary tract infections our staff must be diligent in prevention measures to detour CAUTI's. During FY 2016 we had 2 CAUTI's on Oncology Inpatient; since April 2016 we have had no CAUTI's. We aim to have no CAUTI's during our Infection Control PDSA Team initiative this FY 2017 which will run from 7/1/2016-3/1/2017."--Aim statement.
