August 29, 2009 marked the fourth anniversary of the day Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and the Gulf coast. The devastation wrought by the hurricane prompted remarkably critical media coverage that promised to fight for Katrina survivors and change the way we talk about poverty and race. The UMKC University Libraries joined the UMKC Division of Diversity, Access, and Equity in a series of programs focused on the book, Come Hell or High Water: Hurricane Katrina and the Color of Disaster by Dr. Michael Eric Dyson.eng
