dc.description.abstract[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT AUTHOR'S REQUEST.] The absence of a system that could perform as both a P2P simulator and a P2P emulator poses a barrier to researchers and developers. The objective of this thesis is to build a system that is portable to be deployed in various platforms. The simulator we develop can be used to simulate the newly developed prTorrent protocol which is based on BitTorrent protocol but takes into account piece rarity in the peer unchoking to achieve system robustness. Unique code structures are designed and implemented to support the extensibility to an emulator. This system is also the first Java-based prTorrent simulator for research. Results of prTorrent simulation are generated and presented to verify their implementation, and for further study. Scalability and usability are also considered in the design.eng
