Determination of the critical exponent δ for binary mixtures using a centrifugal field
Abstract
A determination of the critical exponent o has been made for the two liquid-liquid systems, n-decane + dichloroethyl ether and n- hexane + perfluoro n-hexane. Utilizing schlieren photography of the systems in an ultracentrifuge at a temperature slightly below the critical solution point, the concentration gradient was obtained as a function of radius. These gradients, used in conjunction with sedimentation theory to find the variation of chemical potential with concentration, provided a means for calculating values for the exponent δ.
